Springtime happened suddenly! One day it was winter ~ the next spring! . . . . not that it wasn’t welcome!
It’s a wonderful time of the year. We look forward to walking in the city and driving through the countryside. Color is everywhere! Farmers start harvesting the alfalfa and planting their corn. The Amish are busy from dawn to dusk.
Springtime in Lancaster means color! The trees start budding and flowers are everywhere! Nurseries open and people swarm to them, picking out the color that will adorn their property. We are no exception. As we approached our favorite nursery, we could see we weren’t the only people wanting to beautify our property!
The “Flower Wagon” is always busy! Rarely have we even driven past it in the spring and seen it empty! Early spring is a jumping time there! Their hanging plants and variety of annuals and perennials are extraordinary ~ and reasonable! . . . . . . . and they actually sell flower wagons!!
Our “Flower Wagon” full to brim, we head home for a fun filled afternoon of planting pots, hanging flowers and enjoying the beauty of Lancaster spring in our own courtyard! . . . . what you can’t see in the next picture are all the little packs of pansies and posies ready to adorn our pots and property!
Another rite of spring would be yard sales, park sales and development yard sales! We love them as they are events, as well as sales! One we look forward to is in Hopeland, where the Church takes over the park and items are priced from 5 cents to 75 cents! They start setting up around 3AM with an opening time of 7AM. Yeah, right! People are there waiting to help them unpack boxes! We aren’t that crazy, but we are crazy! We arrived there at 5:30AM and were able to watch the sunrise on our trip there.
On of nature’s truly amazing things is the rate at which bamboo grows. We know this because we watch it up close and personal!! Our neighbor has chosen it as a fence. . . . or privacy screen . . . or simply because she is a little weird! Bamboo, as any sane person is aware, is an invasive plant and impossible to kill, remove or control! Forget the fact that it is messy and since it is between her property and ours, we must clean up our courtyard every day!!! It grows daily! The first picture was taken on the 18th of May. Shoots were just beginning to form. Only a couple of shoots were visible.
Nine short days later, on the 27th of May, it was a completely different story!! This is not a plant. . . . . it is a weed!!! For an example of my neighbor’s weirdness, check out the colors of her trim and accessories!
