and went to “The Shore” this weekend! This is an annual event for a lot of people from our area and now we are as good as natives!
Our neighbors across the street, Linda and Jim, really, that’s their names, have a place in Rehoboth Beach and invited us down for the weekend. Can you believe it, Linda and Jim went to Linda and Jim’s place in Rehoboth Beach!
After having a Macacroni Salad for lunch, we headed into town for a tour of the area. First stop, the beach! The waves were huge! I’m surprised they were letting people out in it! They were crashing very close to shore and people were either trying to ride them in or running from them!
This guy didn’t follow the drill. He just stood there and waited to get wet! . . . . and he had to get into my car to drive. He even stood there and waited for another wave ~
I wasn’t the only one taking pictures, as you can see by the cameras around Jim and Linda’s necks! The other Jim and Linda, that is!
There was an amateur Sand Castle Competition taking place and I thought this one was rather interesting. It was dedicated to some body’s dead turtle! “In memory of our turtle and friend, Bubbles” Do you think Bubbles died with her eyes open??
Driving through the Dewey Beach area, we came across the largest crowd of people, on sidewalks, in the street, and at a bar/cafe/?. Saw a Big “Red Bull” sign and heard a loudspeaker. Even saw police cars in the street. What in the World??? The picture below was taken from a moving vehicle and only shows a small fraction of the crowd. You can see several peace officers in the foreground, however.
We also saw a “Red Bull” wandering down the middle of the street. By Red Bull, I mean two people with a red bull costume on, which must have been unbearably hot! Not until reading the paper the next morning did we find out that it was Dewey Beach’s annual version of “The Running of the Bull!” Any excuse to drink, and or sell a product, huh? The people were all gathered at The Starboard which must be the Happenin’ place in town!
On to the next stop, Cape Henlopen State Park, where we actually climbed to the top of a World War II Observation Tower. What a view from the top of the world! You could see several other observation towers in the horizon, the bay and even a tall ship!

We left the Park and headed into Lewes for an ice cream ~ you know, the pre-dinner dessert! Wonderful, wonderful ice cream at King’s Homemade Ice Cream Shops!

We decided to “walk off” the ice cream by walking across the street to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. It is the “first Church in the first State of America,” per their informational handout. The edifice isn’t, the congregation is. The door was lovely! The design at the top of the door was outlined in a deep violet. It was eye-catching!
On the Church property, next to the graveyard was the Labyrinth in stone. A very reflective experience, in a beautiful, serene spot, under a large tree.
Now the coolest dog you’ve ever seen was sitting, just letting all the photographer have a field day! She (and I’m assuming the dog was a she because of the bling on the glasses) sat there and if she could have talked, she would have been saying. . “I’m so cool! I’m so cool! I’m so cool!”

We went back to Linda and Jim’s after the tour to end all tours, freshened up and headed back to Rehoboth for dinner at The Big Fish Grill and Seafood Market, a place we all voted for! Jim and I had eaten there in March and had been impressed and Jim and Linda have eaten there quite a bit!
Our dinners were yummo ~ I used to say yummy until I heard Rachel Ray say yummo so often ~ and very substantial. The 1/2 hour wait for a table didn’t seem long at all, and the 15 minute wait for our food didn’t either!
Jim had a Monkfish w/alfredo sauce, sundried tomatos and mushrooms served over penne pasta. He said it was excellent and Linda had the most tender, melt in your mouth flash-fried flounder, skinny and plentiful french fries plus excellent deli style coleslaw. It was excellent and so plentiful she could not finish it!! (Jim worked away at it, however. . . . .
After dinner we asked our server to take a picture of us so we could record this event for posterity. She obliged us and this is the result. Isn’t it wonderful that the Jims were on the outside and therefore looked a whole lot larger than us?
You can’t go to Rehoboth and not take a walk on the Boardwalk in the evening, so we did just that! We did, and so did hundreds of other people! We stopped at an arcade to play an arcade game . . . Frog Bog. . . . several times! Everybody had to do it.
The object is to put the frog on this device that flips him into the “Lily Pads” after you pound it with a rubber mallet! Of course the Lily Pad is moving, so it’s not a skill you can perfect! It was fun and relieved any tension built up during the week!
A stop at the Candy Shop and home for the evening! Our first day in Rehoboth was fun, full and and memorable!
