for an Organ Recital!
I just couldn’t resist taking this picture of the lake in Mt. Gretna. Everything looked so cool and serene. Anyway, back to the subject at hand. . . .
This is the 11th season of the Pennsylvania Chautauqua Organ Recitals in Mt. Gretna. They are held every Thursday in July in the home of the most gracious hosts, Walt and Peter. I can’t say we’ve gone for 11 seasons, but we have gone several times this season!
The yard and home of our hosts was a wonderland for Linda and her camera. The wood carving was done with two different chainsaws by a most talented artist.
Peter pointed out two stone-like pieces in a garden and explained that they were really speakers. He told us that he often plays organ music and when people walk by they think it’s coming from the carved organ pipes! What a great a great sense of humor ~ children often ask how that music gets there and he explained that one of those little angel heads is really a door, and a little man opens it and goes in to play the little organ that is in the trunk!!!
Last night, 24 July, we had the privilege of hearing the best Organist we have ever heard! He is only 20 years old, but watch this name. . . . Keenan Roberts Boswell . . . . because you are going to hear that name! He was excellent!!
Keenan is a student at Juilliard School in NYC and the Organist at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in that city. He is a gifted and talented young man and truly has a feel for his music. We were so glad we had the opportunity to hear him.
I found a interview with him on the NPR site “From the Top” . Just click on the highlighted term in the preceding sentence.
Next week is a recital by another student from Julliard and we are truly looking forward to that performance after hearing Keenan!
After the recital we always head over to the Timbers for a snack or something cool to drink. A perfect way to finish off a perfect evening. Although we didn’t sit in the Gazebo to cap off the evening, it does make a great “photo op!”

Wayne certainly knows is way around and where the “must see” places and events are. Score another one for Wayne! We vote YES!
