. . .and we went to Williamsport yesterday to watch a game and join in the fun! ~Jim and Linda and thousands of other families!
We left Lancaster at 8:30 AM and headed north on our journey, arriving at the stadium complex around noon. We arrived too late to even find a seat for the first game in Lamade Stadium (Millcreek, WA-15 vs Hagerstown, MD-5), so we went to Volunteer Stadium and got a good seat for the second game! How about between home and third, in the shade, 3rd row with no seats in front of us??
Game 2 started at 1PM and scheduled to play was Mexico vs Guam. Excellent! Linda lived on Guam for 5 years as a child and knew exactly which side we were going to sit on and which team we were going to cheer on and support!

These kids were good, but it seemed, no match for Mexico. Each batter from Mexico seemed poised to hit a homerun. . . . and hit them they did! The second inning told the story ~ back to back balls over the fence! . . . and then the longest one we’ve ever seen in Williamsport!

The game was called on a mercy-ruling after four innings of play. Final score, Mexico 10, Guam 0. You had to feel sorry for those young kids. Mexico was awesome and ready for a win!
Then the fun started! Dugout posed for a picture for me on our way up to the Fan Fun Tent. We had heard you could get free pins for your ball caps from various organizations and vendors there and went up to see what we could do! Well! We did well! We got pins from Sunkist, Snickers, Subway, Frosted Flakes and Honda. Then we saw a group gathered singing the song “Everywhere we go, people want to know, who we are . . . . ” Had to stop to watch, but it was just breaking up.
Well! They were starting another sing-a-long and asked if there were any volunteers! Jim didn’t know what they were asking for volunteers for but he raised his hand like the rest of us, waving it all around, and of course he was picked, being the tallest and loudest in the crowd! He then had to pick the other 8 for the chorus. Standing next to the board with the verse on it, he asked what song he had to sing! Really!!! He really asked!!! For being the Head Song Leader he got a free ball cap, in addition to a pin for each one of us! Way to go Jim!!!
Scores for the rest of the day:
Hawaii 6 – South Dakota 4
Curacao 14 – Italy 1
Florida 8 – Connecticut 2
Final activity for the day was dinner in Shamokin Dam. Although we have passed the sign for Skeeters many, many times, we have never stopped here ~ and why haven’t we??? We have really missed out on some good food! (and an incredible view of Sunbury and the Susquehanna River!

Dinner for each of us was 1/2 rack of ribs, baked beans, coleslaw and a “southern style” corn muffin! Just enough for Jim, too much meat for Linda. A “to-go-box” carried home Jim’s lunch for the next day.
A view of the Susquehanna and Sunbury across the river, taken from the parking lot ~
. . . . . and for the final view from the top of the hill. This picture was taken from the deck of the restaurant. We opted to sit inside, since we were still hot from our experience in the Stadium. It took us a long time to cool down! Had we not been so warm, we would have eaten out on the deck where we could have enjoyed the view in a more “natural setting.” We will be return visitors on our next trip through Shamokin Dam.
and so ended another journey to the Little League World Series for Jim and Linda. Same time, same place next year! We don’t like to miss supporting these kids! Besides the fact, they deserve our support!!
